Hi!
My name is Katherine Schuler.
Welcome to my blog! I've loved reading other people's blogs for years, about anything and everything, but have never had my own before - there's a first time for everything! Thanks for coming by!
Teaching Background
I’m from a small town in Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University (Go Green!) Now, I work for Chicago Public Schools and teach 4th grade at Brentano Math Science Academy in Logan Square. I’m incredibly proud to work there and I love everything it stands for, if you want to check it out here . I am the literacy teacher for all three 4th grade classes, and although teaching can be exhausting, I really have my dream job. I love ten year olds, books, and my whole school community, so I feel very lucky. Currently, I am pursuing getting my Master’s in Elementary Education from Dominican University. So far, I received my ESL endorsement as part of the program and am now working on getting my Technology Specialist Endorsement. I’ve really enjoyed the technology course work so far and feel like I’ve learned a lot. I hope to learn even more in my current class, EDU 776! Honestly, technology is not something I’d identify as a strong suit for me, so I tend to feel overwhelmed at the beginning of a new technology class. However, I know I will grow the most through challenging myself and being out of my comfort zone.
Personal Life
I’m also embarking on a pretty big adventure very soon, becoming a mom in November! This is my first child, and my husband and I are SO excited, but also nervous too. Basically all my free time lately has been spent preparing for the baby in one way or another. I can’t stop browsing all things baby gear on Babylist. When I’m not doing that, I’m relaxing with my golden doodle, Ruby, going on really long walks, cooking or reading, and spending time with family or friends. I love traveling, but haven’t done too much of it since COVID.
I also love meeting new friends, even online, so let me know if we have anything in common!

Hey Katherine! Congrats on your first blog post! First and foremost I want to say that the teachers at Brentano are rockstars for being the first schools to do a teach out in the freezing cold when CPS wanted us to go back to in person learning without an agreement with CTU. Some of my colleagues at Prosser HS have kids at your school and in solidarity we also staged a teach out in freezing weather! Thank you for all you do for our littles in elementary! Congratulations and wishing you all the best as your new bundle of joy arrives soon! I got married this summer and it's our next step too, but I'm trying to finish grad school first in December. You got this!
ReplyDeleteHi Katherine! Great first blog post! I also love traveling, am a dog mom, and want to learn more about technology. Last year due to COVID, I feel like I got better with incorporating technology in the classroom, but there are always new tricks and tech to learn! Congratulations on the future newest member to your family! I'm looking forward to working with you in class this semester :)
ReplyDeleteHi Katherine! Nice first blog it was very engaging. Congratulations to you and your husband on growing your family. Enjoy the moment, being a new parent can be tiring but those moments are precious. Our child is now 6 and I do miss those times when she was a little baby. Thank you for posting and sharing!
ReplyDeleteGoodness...so much in common! My twins are November babies, I taught in CPS for 25 years (15 of those in 4th grade!), and I currently also teach for Michigan State! Congrats on the upcoming addition to your family. I'm curious- what are some of the things you've loved about your other technology classes? Looking forward to learning more from your new blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Katherine! Love the blog! specially your GIF .. made me laugh! :)
